As part of my master’s research I spent six month in a small Cuban village researching spirit possession within Santería rituals. One of the results of this research was a photo exhibition titled “Cuba. The Spirits and the Herbs” hosted by State of Mind in Utrecht, in 2018. The collecion of photos explores how do rural Afro-Cubans interact with spirits through dance and ritual and what is the significance of the spirit posessions for the local community. This work combines my education as an anthropologist and my way of engaging with the world, as a photographer.
